The Ministry of Local Government is committed to improving efficiency and accountability in Local Authorities. Our vision is to have viable, autonomous, responsive and accountable Local Authorities.

The INTERNET has become an indispensable source of information for people throughout the world. The development of a WEBSITE and use of E-MAILS is an essential tool of communication between our Local Authorities, customers and other stakeholders. Through this particular channel, we are able to communicate to the public about our Ministry’s mandate, our development undertakings and achievements.

My Ministry has already registered Website Domains and created E-mail accounts for all the 175 Local Authorities in the country. In the light of this development, I would like to advise Local Authorities without Websites to embark on this important activity, so as to be able to publish their information online. In this way, the public will be able to readily receive information on line about their development programmes.

The information and communications revolution the world over has not only enabled greater freedom, but it has also enhanced greater vigilance, accountability and transparency in the management of public institutions. The communication through the Website testifies the commitment of my Ministry to ensure that our Local Authorities become open and responsive to the residents they serve.

I congratulate the Municipal Council of Eldoret for launching this informative and comprehensive Website. The initiative will go a long way in assisting the Council to tackle the challenges of providing services to their customers.
