MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR PDF Print Email

The Municipal Council of Eldoret has developed this website to enable her residents, Stakeholders, Investors, Councillors and employees to participate and support the service delivery initiatives we have committed to provide.

Eldoret Town grew as a service and administrative Centre for the Migrant White farming Community way back in 1910, from an isolated Post Office for White farmers which was established in a farm called 64 (Sixty Four). This farm formed the original site for the Post Office and was an unattractive stony piece of land. The Post Office was later developed to include Market Offices serving the Community in the town from this humble beginning the town as grown to be among five big cities in the Republic of Kenya.

The current Council began to operate in February, 2008, after the General Elections, when we felt that,to propel the residents of Eldoret forward we need to be focused and thus revised our strategic plan to reflect our new thinking and operation but also be in line with the Kenyan vision 2030.

The Council initially was faced with various problems and challenges in terms of increasing population, traffic congestion, poor infrastructure, poor drainage system, illegal structures and problem of land use management.
We are in process of improving these services by developing a master plan for the town. The Council is constructing Retail and Hawkers Market for small and informal traders in town to improve the lives of our people and in the process decongest the Central Business District.

My Council identifies itself with athletes in the region who have made us proud as Kenyans and as a Council. We continue to support athletics through the provision of required facilities. The Rehabilitation of Kipchoge Stadium to International Standards is underway. In the long term a construction of a Modern Stadium has been identified as a priority.

The Post election violence experienced in our Town early 2008 is now behind us. The Town has continued to receive influx of investors in various sectors. I call upon the investors and business people interested in doing business to come to Eldoret and exploit the untapped potentials and opportunities.

The Council is keen to enhance transparency and accountability and will endeavor to be as open as possible to the residents of Eldoret as we do our best to improve services. We therefore cherish and appreciate the involvement of stakeholders and partners in the management of the Council. This is already exemplified through the annual Local Authority Service Delivery Action Plan (LASDAP) Consultative Meeting and Budget Day Meetings.

The Citizens also have the opportunity to measure our service standards and give feedback on areas outlined in service charter.

I look forward to the support of all stakeholders, Partners and Investors as we work hand in hand to achieve our vision

Welcome to our Website, the Town of Athletes. “K A R I BU”
